Will You Be Too Late to Retire Off Dividends?
My Portfolio:
One of the most common concerns that I see from people within the dividend investing community is that many people think they're getting too late to be able to someday retire off dividends. It's a very popular topic that I see all the time on websites like Reddit and other dividend communities out there. Most people who are familiar with dividend investing are also well aware of the dividend snowball. The longer you remain in the market and reinvest your dividends, the faster your money grows. Although it starts slow, after so many years, your money begins to jump exponentially, and the longer you remain in the market, the better. So it’s very common to see people asking questions like, I’m 30, or I’m 45, and I want to start dividend investing. Am I too late to start investing in dividend stocks? Because these people ideally don’t want to wait, or they might not even have the option of waiting, 30 or 40 years to allow a snowball to grow massively.

Dividends from SCHD are typically taxed at the qualified dividend rate, which may be lower than ordinary income tax rates for many investors. However, the main focus for markets now is Nvidia, which has powered a large chunk of the S&P 500’s recent earnings. Nvidia’s stock, up more than 90% this year, rose 2.5% in New York on Monday, sending the Nasdaq 100 index to another record high. I'm still looking for companies to make additions to my $350K portfolio, to boost performance. Here for ideas...

My advice for dividend investors is to save for a bigger investment if you really want to retire off dividends, My major picks are SCHD and VOO and a few more that i can't mention because my FA Dianne Sarah Olson is really strict on discretion, anyway i digress, You can't expect to make a million from a thousand dollar investment that's where most people get it wrong, It's not a lottery!! Make realistic investments!! People say it's good to be greedy while investing..Yes, i agree but there's a difference between being greedy and being delusional haha. For example last year I invested 80k in stocks and made about 246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded with her again and now I'm rounding up close to a million.

If your getting $3500 a month from SS that equals $42000. In the past 3 years I've saved $71000 and currently earn $9500 annually from having that in stocks. My wife will also be getting $3500 monthly so add that up and I think we will be ok. Looking to save another $150000 prior to retiring I think we are doing pretty good. Not to mention I also have a 401K. Your videos are great let me add.

Because of dividends, I first began investing in stocks. It's important, in my opinion, to be able to live off of dividends without selling if you invest and make other income in addition to payouts. It suggests that you may pass that down to your kids and give them a leg up in life. Over the years, I've invested over $600k in dividend stocks; I continue to buy more today and will keep doing so until the price drops even further.

I have some good news about people who don't have a lot of time. If you invest as much as you can, but you can only reach around $100k-$200k growth, I suggest investing the rest in income investing and then live out your retirement in cheaper countries. There was a dividend investor who worked at a pizzeria for 8 Years, got a return of $150k, and took his family to live in the nicer parts of Mexico, hardly having to work for a living anymore. And that was with low-level Pizzeria employee money. Imagine what's possible with an experienced senior like yourself

Holy shit. I'm over here angry about all the cheap stocks and etfs I didn't invest in when I had thousands in savings doing nothing last year at Age 18. I've started investing at age 19 and putting $280 a month into a portfolio of dividend income and dividend appreciation stocks as well as a separate portfolio of blue chip stocks and several other safe stocks. I'm currently receiving 10$ a month from dividends since I started investing 4 months ago and both my portfolios are pretty green overall. I had no clue I was well under the average age of people who begin investing. I'm glad I've put such a focus on my future using all sorts of online research and information and not taking it for granted. I hope a lot more people in different situations take a look at your page and realize that there's still a benefit to investing for income.

It depends on the company. If you believe a company can make better investments than you can today then you want them to not pay a dividend at all or only a small dividend. The reason is that paying a dividend and using the dividend to buy more of their stock has tax implications and transaction costs. You wouldn't want a company like TSMC to pay out a huge dividend, they must take almost all their profits and plow them back into the next generation of chip technologies. High dividends are for stable, boring, mature companies and those are a good counter weight to more risky growth stocks where your expectations what will happen in 5 years can easily add another zero to the end of the stock price (e.g. nVidia) and if that vision of the future fails to materialize that P/E will have to come back to Earth by way of a collapse in prices and if it *does* materialize that P/E will come back to Earth by earnings steadily growing at fantastic rates. I'm trying to stay away from the AI hype because I think it's way too early and a classic bubble, but I could be wrong.

Occupancy rates is a significant problem for commercial real estate. But I think the biggest problem is the billions and billions of dollar or commercial real estate loans that are resetting in 2024. I don't know the exact numbers, but I believe their current interest rates are around 3% and they are going to rest to approximately 7%. Wait for a real estate collapse, then bet big on real estate.

I'm a little on the lucky side. My job has a pension, and while it'll never be a super high one like some of the other people I work with, it is still a good start. I figure it should be around $50 to 55K by the time I'm allowed to collect. Notice my wording there. When I started my job, I was supposed to be able to retire... two years ago. Now, I have fifteen more years before I am allowed to collect. But enough of me being grumpy about bad Union representation. At the time, I was interested in beginning to invest, and since I hate selling assets for gains, I wanted to start on dividend investing. However, it was suggested that I pay off all debt first. So, anyway, I still have debt. Usually, some emergency pops up, and I get slammed with bills that cripple my finances for a couple years, and the process begins anew. It's not even that high (never exceeded $35k), but like a glass of water at a nice restaurant, it just keeps being refilled. I figured out that, FOR ME, the only way to get beyond my debt was to start actually putting my money someplace I wouldn't be able to touch it. I.e., Invest it. So, in the last two and a half years of saying fukitol, I've saved almost $70k (No, I don't have a life). About half of this is in more stable funds and ETFs, and the rest is in a mix of higher-yielding assets, some reasonably safe and some... well, let's go with questionable. I still have debt, and I'm doing what I can to pay it off, but I will never have a future if I wait any longer. Regardless, I will say that it is better to start as early as possible, even if you have debt, to start with small amounts and build from there. Paying off the debt first would be ideal, but if your debt is just the roadblock stopping you from securing your future, then drive on the sidewalk.

Retail and home improvement were some of the hardest-hit sectors during the 2008 crash. We are many years over due for a crash and the country's economic situation is much, much worse than it was in 2007. So, it is reasonable to expect the next crash to be worse, with banks and consumer discretionary (home improvement, retail, entertainment, automobile, cruise lines, airlines, casinos, hotels...) to be some of the hardest-hit sectors. With the inflation we are facing and likely to continue to have in the future, discount places like McDonalds, Burger King, Dollar Store, Dollar Tree...are also being hit hard. Banking is a train wreck. There is huge amount of commercial real estate loans resetting this year. Their interest rates will be increasing, if not more than doubling. There is a massive commercial realestate crash on the horizon. Precious metals and mining, oil and energy, auto parts MIGHT be the right sectors to be in. Although, with a recession, people's energy use might decrease, but it will not stop and many of these companies often pay dividends.

I was a stay at Home mom with no money in my IRA or any savings of my own, which was scary at 53 years of age. Three years ago I got a part time job and save everything I make. After 3 years, I am 56 yo and have put $9,000 in an IRA and $40,000 in my portfolio with CFA, Abby Joseph Cohen. Since the goal of getting a job was to invest for retirement and NOT up my lifestyle, she was able to scale this quickly to $150,000. If I can do this in a year, anyone can.

I heard most of the time people think investing requires lots of capital at once. But most didn't know that they could DCA and or buy fractional shares. Whether it's dividend stocks or index funds or tech stocks or real estate stocks. If an investor is not rich then the most important steps are to keep your main job because your paycheck can be used to contribute a bit into buying dividend stocks and dip your toes into the stock market and put in all your mind to learn it even after you finish your daily job. Learn about the company, ask the right questions, don't be shy to talk about finance even if you only have $20 in your account. Remember there's no shortcut to become rich and when it's too good to be true then most likely it's too good to be true then don't buy it. Always treat your investment like a business not quick and easy money.

Dude! What were you thinking with regards to the Fed??? Inflation was running sooo hot. The market predictors were putting out all kinds of trash at the end of '23 and the beginning of the year that there would be 5 or 6 rates cuts this year. Really. Thats akin to the thinking of that stupid cow Yellen that "inflation is temporary" and we know how that turned out. But you are being paid almost 6% in dividends to wait for the stock to rebound. Nothing wrong with dumping a larger amount into an investment if its a good company and the company/sector has been beaten up (like REITS) and its at historical lows .I bought some at 48 to 50$ as i recall. DCA is the way to go but buying a dip also works until you get to what amount you want to own. I'm glad you pointed all that out in this video. your hard lesson was to not DCA into an interest rate sensitive stock not too far off its high even if you believed interest rates were coming down. CPI may be 3.6 % but mortgages still high at 6 1/2 to over 7 %.

Dividend investing is just one piece of the puzzle. 34 yo, single, living in NYC. Div portfolio is ~ $33k…only at about $200-215/month and reinvesting. More for supplement income and as an extra safety net to cover in the event of a job loss or major purchase BUT this is after having no credit card debt, no car payments, and already having saved 6 months of living expenses..
